It has been a lifelong argument on the proper way to educate and teach adolescents and teens about use of contraceptives and other forms of safe sex in order to ultimately prevent an unwanted pregnancy at a young age. There seems to be a good amount of positive progress being made in states across the U.S in education of when and how to use these devices, as it has become apparent through the steady drops in teen pregnancies over the years.
In many states such as Iowa, which is mentioned in the article, students have become properly aware of the precautions of having sex and all of the procedures one should take in order to reduce the risk of a pregnancy. There are many ways in which U.S states are doing this, including the creation of workshops, clubs, and classes that serve a sole purpose of teaching about contraceptives and all that good stuff.
In the article, a student who is interviewed stated that the last thing on her list of things to do right now was to get pregnant and have a kid, while some of the top things were to go to college, get a medical degree, and maintain a steady job. This is a good general example of how many, if not most all of teens are thinking now-a-days. Without the proper education on how to have safe sex and the push for discussion about it, the United States unplanned pregnancy rate would be out of control and a huge problem for that person and ultimately the society around them. In the future, many schools and districts are looking to push for the availability of contraceptives such as condoms in high school nurse facilities as a free resource for the students.
